Running Toward Recovery

Brett Wolff is a competitive tennis player who uses a wheelchair. He plays tennis throughout the year and competes in cities all over the U.S. Brett joined Anytime Fitness in Waupun, WI, in June of 2020, with the goal of improving his tennis game. He wanted to focus on improving his strength, so he could hit the ball faster, and his conditioning, for better endurance during matches. He started working out in group training, pushing sleds, using battle ropes, doing pull-ups and more.

John Erickson has been a member of Anytime Fitness Nashville, GA, for almost seven years. He’s always been a runner, and since joining the gym, he participated in just about every club competition, joining everything from a dry-tri challenge to a college football draft! In true Anytime Fitness spirit, whenever he enters a competition, he loves encouraging others to join him.

Unfortunately, John’s fitness journey took a turn when he suffered a heart attack in October of 2020.

He had three procedures in just 24 hours, and was left with eight stents in his arteries. After the surgery, John faced 36 sessions of rehab therapy, which was prolonged due to COVID-19.

Still as ambitious as ever, John came to the gym almost every day that he didn’t have rehab. He finished rehab in early March, and hasn’t missed a gym visit since February 25 – almost three months in a row!

He’s been returning to running at the gym and does interval training on the treadmill for a full hour every three days.

“The doctor told me that if I hadn’t been in as good of shape as I was, then I would have had a heart attack at lot sooner than I did!” John said.

The gym couldn’t be more proud of or more thankful for John. As the club’s manager said, “He’s a big part of our family and we’re so proud that he’s continuing to make healthy happen!”
