For many of us, this year has completely changed the way we live and while our fitness routines may have been altered or disrupted, there’s no need to put your health and fitness goals on pause. There are lots of ways that you can live a healthier life despite setbacks, big or small, and we’re sharing our top 5 that will help you along the way. Though they may seem small, they have the power to make a big impact on your holistic well-being for a balanced lifestyle!

Make time for fitness

Working out gives you more energy and improves your alertness throughout the day (pack your bags, brain fog!). Not only is fitness essential for your health, it also impacts your mind and clarity! Whether you hit the purple turf, stream a virtual workout session, walk around your neighborhood, or explore nature—regular physical activity has a large impact on your overall wellness. Fitness also creates connection in your daily life, and building community is a great way to help you stay consistent with your health journey.

Take brain breaks throughout the day

Taking some time throughout your day to take a deep breath and relax can be very beneficial to your overall wellness and productivityA quick walk, getting some fresh air, and stretching are just a few great options. Be mindful of your screen time and set timers to remind you to move. By taking a few minutes away from your 9-5 for a breathing exercise or downward dog, you can refresh your mind and body, at the same time! Win-win.

Water, water and more water!

Did you just think about how you could probably be drinking more water? Sometimes simple reminders such as a sticky note on your desk can be a great reminder to drink more water! Ideally, you should drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day. Try adding things like fresh fruit, mint, or cucumbers to your water for a burst of flavor. There are also lots of great sugar-free sparkling water options in the market like La Croix, Bubly, or AHA!

Set and stay on track with your goals

We know life can get hectic, but prioritizing your goals is an act of self-care. While some goals might need to be slightly modified when things get crazy, it can help to make a plan so you can stay on track. Make sure to set both short- and long-term goals that ladder up to the big picture in your journey. Use the SMART acronym to create Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound goals that are not only impactful, but realistic, too. Remember, you can’t hit a target you can’t see!

Control what you can control

Despite our best efforts, some things will remain out of our control. Instead of getting caught up on the things you can’t change, focus on the things that you can directly impact, right now. For example, if you can’t make it to the gym this week, that doesn’t mean you can’t work out! Prioritize starting your day with an at-home workout or pencil in a walk after dinner each night. This will help provide a sense of purpose and accomplishment while continuing to roll with the punches. Creating checklists and checking things off as you go, like your daily workout or achieving your water intake goal for the day, are great mental reminders of the awesome choices you’re making everyday. Celebrate your victories, no matter how big or small!
